As a Senior Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will be a member of the Privacy and Compliance Office supporting various independent research communities. We are looking for a person who has a strong commitment to scientific impact, a passion for advancing the ethical and responsible use of data to optimize human health, and enjoys engaging with scientists and researchers across many disciplines.
Job Summary:
As a Senior Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will lead and analyze compliance with data privacy policies and regulations, develop and implement privacy guidelines and training materials, and support collaborative data governance practices for various research communities under minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of governance frameworks to enable responsible research collaborations. Projects may include crowd-sourced analysis challenges, academic consortia, and public-private partnerships.
- Engage with diverse collaborators, including researchers, research participants, funders, and other partners to understand unique governance needs, concerns, and priorities.
- Assess the ethical, legal, and technical implications of data-sharing initiatives including big data sharing and AI/ML-based research.
- Develop creative strategies to mitigate potential risks to enable sharing goals.
- Serve as subject matter expert on privacy regulations, research compliance, and ethical standards.
- Facilitate the development and execution of data-sharing agreements through detailed review.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of data-sharing initiatives with a process improvement focus.
- Initiate and/or refine governance policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement privacy/governance training and awareness program materials.
- Collaborate within the Privacy and Compliance Office to respond to data incidents, including investigations, root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Represent Sage at professional meetings.
We’d Love to Hear from You If You:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Have 7+ years of working experience, including 3+ years in scientific data privacy, research compliance, or a related area.
- Have a proven experience engaging and communicating effectively with diverse audiences, including scientifically and technically inclined audiences, academic consortia, and the general population.
- Have successfully developed and implemented procedures, policies, and institutional agreements.
- Have experience with, and understanding of, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods and their impact on responsible data governance.
- Understand F.A.I.R data sharing and ethical research principles.
- Have a deep, demonstrated understanding of relevant laws, regulations, ethical principles, and best practices related to working with human and animal data.
- Have experience with investigating and analyzing incidents, and developing Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) plans.
- Are familiar with legal language and agreement review.

At Sage Bionetworks, we implement equitable workplace strategies to guarantee fair compensation. Actual compensation is determined based on current market data, experience, and internal pay parity. This position is classified as a Sage Senior level, with a salary range of $81,700 to $108,265. New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although higher offers may be considered based on experience and market conditions.
We have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.
