As an Associate Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will be a member of the Privacy and Compliance Office supporting processes related to the ethical and compliant intake and sharing of biomedical research data. We are looking for a person who is familiar with biomedical human research and the associated laws, regulations, and ethical principles that support research integrity. The ideal candidate will also be self-motivated and able to perform reading-intensive, computer-based tasks for extended periods within a remote work environment. In this role, you will contribute to expanding the scientific impact of biomedical research data to optimize human health in an ethical and compliant manner.

Job Summary:
As an Associate Privacy/Data Protection Analyst, you will coordinate and/or execute Privacy and Compliance Office operational tasks such as responding to data access requests for established data-sharing communities, contributing to the assessment of emerging privacy issues, and supporting collaborative data governance practices under close supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and complete Privacy and Compliance Office administrative tasks to ensure efficiency and rigorous record keeping.
  • Contribute to compliance audits or investigations as needed.
  • Monitor and promptly respond to internal and external support requests related to Privacy and Compliance Office responsibilities and initiatives.
  • Respond to data access requests within documented guidelines for assigned projects.
  • Record and report Privacy and Compliance Office metrics for internal and external use.
  • Contribute to the assessment of the emerging ethical, legal, and technical implications of sharing and using biomedical research data.
  • Contribute to the development of internal privacy and compliance training and awareness materials.
  • Contribute to sustaining and improving Privacy and Compliance Office procedures and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to sustain and improve data sharing governance processes.
  • Partner with teams to enable compliant data-sharing practices.
  • Stay current in applicable rules & regulations (e.g., the Common Rule, HIPAA, GDPR) and best practices that support responsible research and enable open science practices.

We’d Love to Hear from You If You:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as biological sciences.
  • Have work experience related to biomedical research (e.g., research within an academic, hospital, pharmaceutical industry, or related settings).
  • Are familiar with laws, regulations, ethical principles, and best practices relevant to working with human and/or animal research data.
  • Have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills across various audiences and mediums, e.g., via emails, meeting participation, presentations, etc.
  • Have demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Have experience with documentation/task management tools (e.g., Google Suite, MS Suite, Confluence, Jira).
  • Have strong digital literacy skills and willingness to learn new software.
  • Are able to navigate ambiguity as project and business needs grow and change.
  • Can sustain focus and concentration for extended periods while completing computer-based and reading-intensive tasks.
  • Are familiar with scientific biomedical research language.
  • Are familiar with legal language.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel is required a minimum of two times per year for on-site events in Seattle, WA.

  • Active participation in a remote work environment, including virtual meetings (on-camera participation expected unless accommodated)...

At Sage Bionetworks, we implement equitable workplace strategies to guarantee fair compensation. Actual compensation is determined based on current market data, experience, and internal pay parity. This position is classified as a Sage Associate, entry level position, with a hiring salary range of $57,800 to $74,850. New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although higher offers may be considered based on experience and market conditions.

We have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.
