Synodos is a first-of-its-kind Neurofibromatosis research collaboration dedicated to defeating a variety of forms of neurofibromatosis. To date there are three Synodos efforts funded by Children’s Tumor Foundation and supported by Sage. The Synodos model brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists from world-class labs at academic and medical centers of excellence, who have pledged to work closely together – sharing information, datasets, results and more – at every step in research development, with the goal of speeding up the drug discovery process. Synodos NF2 is the first of the Synodos efforts that studies the the rare genetic disorder neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) with the end goal of finding new approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of two primary NF2-related tumors: vestibular schwannoma and meningioma. Synodos NF1 represents diverse approaches to pre-clinical drug discovery for plexiform neurofibromas that arise in NF1 patients. Synodos LGG targets low-grade gliomas that arise in NF1 patients. Together these efforts will create a unified data repository of NF-related research that will be made available to the community to further the development of drugs to treat NF.
