Mobile technologies are revolutionizing clinical research
Smartphones and other sensor technologies offer a unique opportunity to develop studies of human health that are both more rewarding for participants, and more scalable and powerful for researchers. Sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and microphones can provide novel, quantitative measurements of human health and disease, and the environmental variables that influence them. Even classic research instruments, such as surveys, may be administered in ways that are more lightweight and engaging than in traditional studies. Ultimately, mHealth studies are leading to more detailed and informative data sets acquired as part of participant’s daily lives outside the clinic.
Sage’s mission is to develop — and help others develop — mobile health studies that accelerate biomedical discovery and improve patient lives. Sage Bionetworks is the world leader in piloting this approach with our partners, functioning both as a technology service provider and a research partner.
